Located in 375 Darling Street, Balmain Sydney.
Working with property developer and architect, the brief requires original floorplate design that can exist cohesively within the Balmain locale and have special consideration for Australian Living. What do Australians value in a home right now in the current market.
Project Requirements:
-
unique floorplate design that attracts the right target market
-
must be affordable for each target market
-
must suit the Balmain locale and its inherent characteristics and history
-
create branding, logo and marketing material to suit the concept and to sell the apartments
Concept:
The floorplate design is original. The finishes and fixtures must be unique but also affordable to first home buyers, retirees, and young families. The concept centres on a ship theme because of the shape of the building and Balmain's Shipyard roots.
It comprises of a Studio, 1 Bedroom, 2 Bedroom and 3 Bedroom spacious apartments. In the foyer, a waterfall and green wall was constructed to represent the sea, moss and seaweed.
2 sets of 2 moving wall partitions with pivots in the studio represented the propeller of the ship giving privacy as well as a feature wall if needed.
The balcony was designed playfully as starboard vessels which can be found on the sides of the ship. Implementation of bold reds, oranges, yellows and blues were used to represent the colours of the sunset and the sea which really suited the scheme especially in the living room giving strong pops of colour to delight. Sand coloured polished concrete on the floors was added, reminiscent of the feeling of walking bare feet in the sand during sunset in Balmain.
